Bach sure Blatter will honour pledge over World Cup

International Olympic Committee president Thomas Bach
believes FIFA president Joseph Blatter will honour a commitment not
to stage the Qatar 2022 World Cup at the same time as the winter
Olympics that year.
FIFA is considering moving the tournament to the winter months to
avoid Qatar's summer heat, but Bach said there would be "no winners"
if the 2022 Winter Olympics and World Cup coincided.
Bach told the BBC in an interview he received a pledge from Blatter
that there would not be a clash.
"I have no reason not to believe (him)," he said in the interview
posted Monday.
"He made it very clear that a clash of these two great events is in
nobody's interest.
"And therefore his clear commitment was, and is, that there will not
be such a clash."
FIFA is studying proposals to move the Qatar World Cup to either
January-February or November-December.
The 2022 Winter Olympics are expected to be held in February, with
Beijing and Almaty, Kazakhstan, the only candidate cities bidding for
the Games.
As in past interviews, Bach would not be drawn on the controversy
surrounding the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups and calls
for FIFA to publish the full report of the FIFA ethics committee
inquiry into corruption allegations.
"It's not for me to give advice to FIFA over the media," the German
said.
"They know what they have to do to get this inquiry to an end as soon
as possible, and then present the results and the reason for this
result to the public. I think this is crucial."
